“Since First Grade” – A Love That Never Left
It’s rare—almost unheard of—for a love story to begin in the first grade. But for Jeffrey and Melissa, that’s exactly how it started. From childhood classmates to life partners, their journey is as beautiful as it is timeless. And now, with their two amazing daughters by their side, they’ve stepped into a new chapter—celebrating their traditional Catholic wedding at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Las Vegas.
Yes, it was 109°F in the desert heat (and I’m still riding the jet lag waves from Italy), but my creative fire was burning strong. This day meant something special—not just to them, but to everyone involved.
My photographer friends Mike and Kat of Mango Studios—who also captured Jeffrey and Melissa’s big day—connected us because the couple dreamed of a same-day edit. Familiar faces always make the day sweeter. And joining me was my longtime friend and fellow filmmaker, Sigmund—a true rockstar now based in Vegas. With just the two of us (a rare move for an SDE), we pulled off what usually takes a team of three. Experience, instinct, and heart carried us through.
The day before the wedding, during their pre-wedding story session, Melissa mentioned a name that caught me off guard—Reynard Silva. She said she loved his song “I Hide.” Coincidentally, I had just done a shoot with Reynard weeks before. As Melissa shared why the song meant so much to her and Jeffrey, it all clicked. Their feelings for each other had been quietly growing for years before finally blooming in high school. That song… was their story.
Later that night, I texted Reynard and asked if I could use “I Hide” for their same day edit. Without hesitation, he gave me his blessing.
RNB isn’t my usual SDE style—I usually lean into cinematic, uplifting soundtracks—but this was different. This was intimate. Real. Honest. And I wanted to honor it.
Here’s to love that’s patient, faithful, and rooted so deeply it spans decades.
Jeffrey and Melissa—thank you for trusting me to tell your story.
